Continental drift-Explain it. The gradual movement of the continents across the earth's surface through geological time.
Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.

1. Puzzle pieces
2. Tropical glaciers scratches
3. Mountain Minerals
4. Similar Fossils

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it. The formation of new areas of oceanic crust, which occurs through the upwelling of magma at mid-ocean ridges and its subsequent outward movement on either side.

Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1. First, samples of the deep ocean floor show that basaltic oceanic crust and overlying sediment become progressively younger as the mid- ocean ridge is approached, and the sediment cover is thinner near the ridge.

2. Magnetic Reversals is the 2nd proof. A much better fit between the rifted continents is apparent when the shape of the continental slop is used instead of the continent's shoreline. Detailed mapping of distinctive rock units that extend out to sea along the South American and African coasts and North American and British coasts has shown that they would converge perfectly if the continents could be fitted together.

sea floor

1.magnetic reversal-magnetic field reversals definition. Changes in direction or orientation of the magnetic field of the Earth.  Great!

2.age of the rock - scientist have taken samples of the rock and some are a lot older than the other.  Good!

Continental Drift and Seafloor spreading

Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.
Continental Drift explain it:
Continental drift is the movement of continents moving relative to each other
1.   Glacial Structures:  Glacial structures support this too because rock have been studied and they have light and really deep scratches and these have been supported with the idea that glaciers went over them.
2.   Geological: Geological clues support this because plate tectonics move around Earth.
3.    Mountain Ranges: Because part of the Appalachian Mountains are in Asia and part are in the Easters part of the United States.
4.    Fossil: Fossils of the Mesosasaurus have been found in different continents that are far away from each other.

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it.

Formation of areas of oceanic crust. That involve hot magma erupting out of the ocean floor and then cooling down which cause the magma to crack when it cools down.

Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1.  Age- When the magma starts getting older newer magma starts forming and the old magma pushes the newer one away.

2. Plate Tectonics- plate tectonics are evidence because as they slowly move away from each other beneath the ocean floor, hot magma from the Earth’s mantle bubbles to the surface.
This is not a proof ..it is true but it is not prove that seafloor is actually growing.

continetal drift and seafloor spreading

Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.
Explain what continental drift is.
1.
ROCK DISTRIBUTIONS what is this?
2.
MOUNTAIN RANGES how does this prove anything?
3.
FOSSIL DISTRIBUTIONS..how does this work?
4.
EVIDENCE OF GLACIATION..how does this work?

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it.
Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1.the lava closer to center is youngest

2.the farest farther from the center is the oldest These both represent age of the rock...there is another one.

Continental Drift and Seafloor spreading

Continental drift/Seafloor Spreading.

Continental drift-Explain it.

Continental Drift is how the continents drifted to their current spot. Pangea was what they called the continents before they were split apart.

Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.

1. Glacial Striations- glacial striations are where the glaciers slide across the rocks and made a mark

2. Mountain Ranges- there are minerals that have the same age and type of rock in one part of the world then there are the same type and age in a  different part of the world

3. Puzzle- part of central american and part of Africa could fit together like a puzzle piece

4. Fossils- the messasaures was found in Europe and there was another messasaures found in central america
well done!

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it.

Seafloor spreading is magma that is forced upward and flows from the cracks and then becomes solid and turns in to the seafloor.

Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1. Age- close to the cracks where the lava comes up the seafloor is younger and farther from the crack where the lava comes out the age of the seafloor is older

2. Magnetic Reversals- the change of direction when new seafloor is made. Very Good

Continental drift

Continental drift is the theory that the continents are moving with the tectonic plates.
Evidence
1.)The East coast of South America matches the West coast of Africa
2.)Fossils of tropical plants are found in Antarctica
3.)Mountains in North America match mountains in Europe
4.)Glacial striations
are found in jungles. Very Good!
Seafloor spreading is the theory that new seafloor is constantly be being made by lava coming to the surface at mid ocean ridges. The Earth doesn't grow because the seafloor is sub ducting down under the continents to be recycled back into magma.
Evidence
1.)Scientist aged the rock and found that the seafloor furthest from the mid ocean ridge is older.
2.)The magnetic particles in the rock are pointing different directions showing that the seafloor has been going in different directions during magnetic pole switches.

Continental Drift/Seafloor Spreading

Continental drift-Explain it.
Continental drift the the movement of the continents over a long period of time.

Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.

1.
Fossils - Mesosaurus and other dinosaur fossils have been found on coasts opposite each other.
2. Coal - Coal from plants has been found in Antarctica. 3. Geologic Formations - the same type of rocks have been found on the opposite coasts of continents
4. Glacial Striations - scratches from glaciers have been found on rocks in warm places.

This is all well written and organized well.

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it.

Seafloor Spreading is the movement of the ocean floor. Proposed by Hess

Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1.
Magnetic Reversals - the metal particles in the lava pointed toward the polarity at that time.

2.
Radiometric Dating - researchers took rock samples and aged them.

Continental Drift Seafloor Spreading

2. Species of animals
3. Species of plants
4. Mid-Atlantic Ocean ridges

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it. You are suppose to say what seafloor spreading is.

Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1. Molten lava was turning into rock at the bottom of the ocean and spreading the continents apart.

2. Magnetic Reversals

Continental Drift/ Sea-Floor Spreading

Continental drift-Explain it. Continental drift is the theory that once the continents were once all one and drifted the places where they are now.

This is well written!

Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.

1.  Fossils were proved because they found the same types of fossils that were in totally different areas, so at one time they could only could of to been connected to be in different areas.
2. Glacial Striations are found in Africa, so at one time Africa was in towards that Arctic area.
3. Geological features are also found in the mountains of the U.S. and in Russia. Scientists studied the minerals and found that they are made with the same types of minerals.
4. Puzzle-The last one is if you look at a map the east side of South America and the west side of Africa seem like they could have at one time fit together like a puzzle.

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it.

Identify 2 evidences that helped prove the sea floor was growing and explain each one.

1. Age-The first one is that the crust breaks open in some cracks and the magma comes through and cools off causing the magma form into rock and makes the floor spread. They found this my radiometric dating.

2. Magnetic Reversals-They found that the rock farther away from the center the older. Another way was magnetic reversals.

Continental Drift/ Sea Floor Spreading

Continental drift is the movement of continents moving relative to each other

Identify 4 evidences the helped prove the continents where moving and explain each one.

1. Fossils- All of the organisms were together then separated

2. Glaciers-They left glacial striations where?

3. Oil and Coal- Separated; then started in the same spot. How are these proof?

4.  Rock Formation- Geological structures

Seafloor Spreading-Explain it.
The formatation of new areas of oceanic crust, which occurs through the upwelling of magma at midocean rides and its subsequent outward movement on either side.

This is true but it is not a proof.  What is the 2nd proof?
